Organization: Oswaldo Cruz Institute (FIOCRUZ) LabTrip About: Rotate through various areas in lab, go on trips to the field to collect wild mammals for sampling, and develop a broad understanding of approaches used to determine prevalence of various types of infection as well as the infected animal antibody response to infection. The general lab procedures that you can participate in included dual path platform test for L. infantum (rapid test), culturing organisms, DNA isolation, PCR, electrophoresis, preparation of ELISA plates, ELISA assays, preparation of plates for immunofluorescent microscopy, use of immunofluorescent microscopy, morphologic identification of live organisms, and introduction of infectious organisms or potentially infectious samples into experimental mammals to assess infectivity and/or impact of route of infection.
